A Chronological Summary of Events Involving the Piso Family (circa 60 CE to 145 CE).

Another thing to note regarding Josephus as the author of first gospels (as his son Julius was pointing out to us in The Revelation) and of the mention of Christ in the works of Flavius Josephus is that when Julius Piso chose to identify his father with '666' he did so because up until that point in time Flavius Josephus was the only ancient author to have used that number in his works. Therefore, knowing this fact would point directly to Josephus as the only point of reference for that number before Julius' use of it. That is, it was a deliberate and direct tie-in to his father.

Julius Calpurnius Piso was killed by Hadrian in 138 CE and it appears that his son had to finish The Revelation for him, but that it was finished soon afterward. Later, after about 145 CE, Suetonius finished writing his 'The Twelve Caesars'. In it, Suetonius, who was a grandson of Arrius Piso, and aka Antoninus Pius, inserted the number 666 in his work connecting that number with Nero - the Piso family's main initial enemy. It was only after they could do away with Nero that they could finally have the all clear to create and promote their newly invented religion, Christianity. Suetonius knew that Julius used 666 in The Revelation and also knew how it pointed directly to Flavius Josephus, and so, in order to confuse the matter, he used the number to make it appear that there were more instances of it being used that just the two previous ones. That way, the fact that 666 pointed directly to Josephus would not be as obvious. He also wanted to continue writing histories which demonized Nero; the Piso family enemy.

They also did this with all their other enemies, including Domitian. About the year 60 CE, the Piso family (probably via Gaius Calpurnius Piso) went to Nero with their idea for a new religion, one that they had been working on for a number of years at Tiberias, and submitted it for his approval. He denied their request. The Piso family was also about that time harassing the Jews and trying to instigate a war with them. The leader of the Pharisees, Gamaliel I died or was killed in 63 CE, and so was his son Joshua (Jesus), who was a high priest and apparently set to succeed his father as leader. Perhaps father, son or both were killed by the Piso family, maybe even by Arrius Piso himself. This is probably one of the main things which caused the Jews to step up their preparations for war.

From this point on, in terms of a war which may well have been avoided, to the Jews (who, by that time, consisted mainly of the Pharisees), there would be no turning back unless Nero could stop it. How could Nero stop it? The Jews had only a few main demands, but they were determined to obtain them. One, they wanted basic human rights for all people. Two, and end to slavery in the Roman empire. And, three, a new, fair form of government where kings or emperors no longer ruled over the people, but instead, the people were governed by officials which they elected themselves. And, it appears that Nero had made a promise to the Jews that once he died that he would turn the government over to them. When Nero was over-thrown and killed by the Pisos in 68 CE there was no one left to honor this agreement and the Jews were forced to fight for that which was promised them and which was rightfully theirs.

But in the end, they could not win the fight and the government of the Roman empire went to Vespasian for helping the Pisos (with Arrius Piso apparently, but secretly co-ruling with Vespasian and Titus). Then Domitian killed his brother Titus by poisoning him, and Domitian became emperor. But Domitian did not like Arrius Piso or his family and refused to co-rule with him. And once emperor, Domitian banished and exiled various members of the Piso family - except for Arrius Piso's step-brother, Pliny The Younger.

So, Pliny, being able to remain close to Domitian, acted as a spy for the rest of the family. Eventually, the Pisos were able to have Domitian assassinated and they chose and elderly family friend, Nerva (who may have already been terminally ill. Perhaps with cancer). He lived only two years after having been chosen. And he, Nerva, had to chose a replacement beforehand - one that was already chosen for HIM. And that was Trajan, for whom it was already planned that he was to become a member of the Piso family by marriage (to Arrius' daughter Claudia Phoebe aka Pompeia Plotina), and to allow Arrius Piso to co-rule with him in the background. When Domitian was killed, and Nerva was chosen, Nerva's appointment was with certain arrangements already having been made. He was to officially recall Arrius Piso and his family from exile and banishment, and to choose Trajan as his replacement.

When Trajan was dead or dying (or long before it), the Piso family chose Hadrian to replace him. Claudia Phoebe/Pompeia Plotina, speaking for the family said that she preferred Hadrian to replace her husband Trajan as emperor. Apparently, it had been previously arranged that Julius Piso's son or grandson should succeed Trajan, and when his sister publicly chose Hadrian instead, that caused a huge rift in the family. In 138 CE, Hadrian had Julius Piso killed (in history as Julius Severus), as well as Julius Piso's grandson. Julius Piso's son, probably favored by Hadrian, appears to have been allowed to live, and thus, appears to have finished The Revelations which his father had been composing. Julius Piso's son never did become emperor, because when Hadrian died, it was Claudia Phoebe's (aka Pompeia Plotina) son by her first husband (Rufus) who replaced him. That was Antoninus Pius (ruled 138-161 CE). However, eventually, descendants of Julius Piso did become emperor.*
